Situation: Chase credit cards were outdated and disjointed across multiple sub-brands, often at odds with one another. Leaders were held accountable for only satisfying their own consumers, which weakened the masterbrand.

Challenge: We helped Chase unify and modernize a suite of credit cards to tell an authentic story about their customers, clients, and the communities that use them. That means elevating one of the only physical products people touch and feel from Chase – their credit cards. We immediately synced with the Chase team because we shared the belief that a brand must link insights about disparate consumers with strong visual design, product design, and engineering.

Solution: We built a clear and repeatable design system that delivers the Chase masterbrand and its sub-brand relationships – Sapphire, Freedom, Ink, and Chase. Minimal signature elements – a line, arc, or Chase octagon – unite the suite and evoke each sub-brand essence. The cards are true to the Chase brand heritage, manifesting the history and reliability of Chase – no veneers or fake embossments like competitor cards.

It’s an incredible team of people and they have really helped us challenge our own existing perceptions on ideas.
— Leanne Fremar, Chief Brand Officer at JPMorgan Chase & Co.
